Celebratory dinner with the marathon crew
October 14, 2009
This is (part of) my wonderful running group!!! We met up tonight at Quartino’s for a celebratory dinner. We picked today, 3 days after the marathon, to ensure that we were all fully able to walk again
(The picture’s a bit blurry – that’s me standing in the gray sweater on the right side).
I’ve said before, but I’ll say it again: my CARA (Chicago Area Runner’s Assocation) pace group was such a great group, and every single runner made the experience so memorable for me. I loved getting to know everyone, and as someone who has only lived in the city for a little over a year now, I love feeling like I have so many more friends from all of the city.
Running with CARA was an awesome experience and made my marathon training something that I truly looked forward to. So, while I could continue gushing, I’d just like to thank everyone in my group for being so supportive and so much fun to run with!
I fully believe that every time you run a marathon, you learn something new. Despite the fact that this was my third, I still discovered new tricks and tips… many of which I posted here in this post! We chatted about our trials and tribulations, and also began planning what marathon we want to run next
In case you were wondering, I had part of this dinky salad! Quartino is a great restaurant (I’ve eaten there in my pre-vegan days) and they have a great menu, but it’s not really suited for vegans. Luckily I had eaten an enormous amount of food earlier in the day so this was enough for me.
Before I left for dinner I wrote a loooooooong post that centered around my current struggles with my dietary habits. It was a very honest, but slightly negatively-tinged post and I currently feel very upbeat after coming from a lovely night with the running buds. So, I’ll wait to post it til tomorrow.
Until then, the question of the night: If you had to pick one entree and one dessert to eat the rest of your life, what would you pick?

I would pick frozen yogurt for my dessert and fried rice for my entree. I don’t eat fried rice often these days as I’m trying to limit my carb intake, but it’s so tasty and uncomplicated which makes it easy to eat daily.
I’d pick the sushi & seaweed salad at Pure Food & Wine in NYC, followed by the Mint Sundae at Pure Food & Wine in NYC (I blogged about all that food
).
One entree to eat the rest of my life would probably be sushi. Or pasta. Though, I don’t eat either of them as often as I eat oats! (But I don’t know that oats would count as an entree to anyone other than me…) As for dessert, that would have to be Banana Soft Serve with almond butter and some form of chocolate sprinkled on top. Mmmm!
Sounds like fun! I may take your advice next year!
mmm- running friends are some of my favourite… but shhh! Don’t tell my other friends!
I find that running together so long builds such a strong bond.
As for dinner and dessert? Hmm. I have no idea! Perhaps a really massive salad with chickpeas and beans and nuts and a simple but delicious dressing. And dessert? Key lime pie, the way my mom makes it. Not too sweet and very light… I could eat it forever.
