Never too old for a slumber party

Posted on by Val

What a bummer for Team USA hockey…. but at least they put up a good fight! And congrats on the victory to all of my Canadian friends!

I have to say, I had SUCH a great weekend… as I’ve been mentioning on here, work has been crazy and it was such a luxury to have a fun and relaxing weekend!

On Friday, I quickly scurried home after work to get the laundry done so that I wouldn’t have to worry about anything the rest of the night.  Then once Mike got home, we ordered from our local Indian/Nepalese restaurant, The Curry House.  It was the third time I’ve had their food… the last time being here with my mom, and we loved it!

I was looking forward to our relaxing night all week, and in preparation I had chilled a bottle of Reisling that was given to us by our godson’s parents.  Isn’t the bottle adorable how she decorated it for us?  Thanks, Andy and Deanne!

Not the prettiest shot of my food, but I was ready to dig in!!! I ordered the vegetable birhyani and some vegetable korma, both of which were good but not as good as I’ve had from other Indian restaurants.  I think it’s about time that I make some homemade birhyani of my own!

While we watched one of Mike’s favorite movies – A Few Good Men – I munched my way through more than a few brownies from Granola Gourmet.

Look at those simple, recognizable, yet nutritious ingredients!!

I LOVEDDDD these brownies and fortunately for you guys, I will be having a Granola Gourmet giveaway soon!!

I’m only slightly embarrassed to say that I fell asleep from 9-10:30pm while watching the movie!! But since I got so caught up on my sleep, I was able to get up early on Saturday morning for a spinning class. Even though I only had about 2 glasses of wine the night before, it was enough that spinning was a toughie!

Saturday afternoon, I finally got some fresh air – something I don’t do much of these days! – by walking 2 miles up Michigan Avenue to meet up with friends.  It felt so good to walk in the cold, crisp outdoors!

I’m so lucky to have stayed in contact with a group of friends from high school, and while we don’t see each other as frequently anymore since we all live in different cities, it’s so much fun to have meet-ups!  After hours of gossiping talking about intellectual topics, we did a bit of shopping and then went in search of dinner.  We ended up at The Silver Spoon, which is a Thai restaurant in the Gold Coast. I of course had the pad thai:

Which was ok, but not the best.  I love my food to be loaded with sauce and condiments, and this dish could have used a bit more pizazz! At least I had good company….

For dessert, I had made the girls some Chocolate Macaroons.  I pretty much threw ingredients together so I don’t have a recipe to give you, but they were delicious – crispy on the outside and ooey gooey chocolaty on the inside!

The next morning (yes, we had a slumber party) we went to Eggsperience, a new breakfast joint in Clair’s neighborhood.

They didn’t have a lot of vegan items on the  menu, although I’m sure I could have found a few…. such as oatmeal, hash browns, etc.  I ended up having craving their Greek Salad with avocado instead of feta, which turned out to be a great choice!

I love it when my weekends are 1 part relaxation + 1 part fun. It doesn’t hurt that I also have the day off work tomorrow for Pulaski Day… don’t hate!  I’m currently munching on some Sweet Curry sunflower seeds from Kaia Foods. These are sooooo good, and while they would be delicious on a salad or in a stirfry, they are so darn addicting that all I can do it scarf them out of the bag by the handfull!  I can’t wait to try the rest of their products.

Off to do The Shred…. I’m on Day 6, so far so good!

Did you have a fun weekend, a relaxing one, or was it a bit of both?  What was the highlight of your weekend?

  2. Looks like so much fun! I am a total condiment/topping freak too. Theres a BBQ restaurant here, and I don’t even go for the food, I love to fill a plate with pickles, olives, pickled veggies etc.

Highlight? Me almost passing out in church this morning! Aside from that, I also got to see a friend who lives in NYC (a bit away from me.) I’ve missed her a lot and it was good she got out and got some food (She spent time in her hometown because her mom had surgery.)
